History of Golf
The rules of golf were formally created and written down in 1744 by the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, but golf had already been played for centuries beforehand. These rules were set in place for a golf tournament taking place called the Leith Links in Edinburgh. Later these rules were applied to more than thirty golf clubs.
In Canada, the first golf club was founded in 1873 by Scotsman Alexander Dennistoun, in Montreal called the Montreal Golf Club. These clubs were only 9-hole courses, but in 1893 Victoria Golf Club was the first course to have an 18-hole course. Now in Canada, there are 2,363 golf facilities.
The Game of Golf
Golf is a game played with a small, hard ball and a different selection of clubs. The objective of the game is to get the ball into the hole in the least amount of strokes (or turns). A golf course consists of a tee box, fairway, rough, bunkers and greens.

A set of golf clubs usually consists of twelve clubs. There is the driver, woods, irons, hybrids, wedges, and putters. A driver is the club that will make the ball travel the furthest distance, it is the longest and lowest loft club there is – but it is one of the hardest clubs to use. And the wood is only used off a tee in the tee box. There is one-wood, three-wood and five-wood. These clubs are also used for distance and are more accurate to use. An iron set is filled with irons from three to nine. These are medium distance clubs, and each one has a different distance and outcome. Hybrids (or fairways) are the most uncommon clubs, they are hybrids between irons and woods. Clubs that are specifically used for high loft are the wedges, they are typically used to get out of bunkers or go over an obstacle. And lastly the putter, the putter is used for short distances on the green. And to get the ball into the hole.
