Video Editing

January 29th, 2024

On Tuesday, we had a guest speaker, Rich McCue. Rich guided us through making video edits, video and audio editing,, screen casting and interactive approaches. We spent time creating videos in class that were either using the exact prompts on Rich’s website or using the prompts to create our own inspired videos. I began by creating the goat video prompted by Rich before I started to explore with my own video or ideas. I used the goat video instructions to learn how to make a video using different aspects of iMovie.

This is the goat video:

And this was the video that I created. I created this video two years ago for one of my courses at UVIC.

This is a quick video I made as I was exploring the different transitions features.

I also explored using artificial intelligence to create videos and see what it would come up with. I used AI InVideo, and used the prompt of “take me through a hole in a golf game, with cool views of the golf ball and swings with a beautiful scenery,” to connect both my weekly reflections and my inquiry project of golf.

Using Videos in Classrooms

I strongly believe that using videos in a classroom is a very useful tool. Videos add as an engaging concept, students are more inclined to learn if they are watching a video because it does not feel like they are directly learning. It also adds for enhanced comprehension, because if you deliver the information in one way before hand, the video than reiterates the learning idea that is being taught. The benefits of using videos as a tool in a classroom are enriching learning experiences, incline in engagement and support of academic growth.

Would it be useful for you to make some of your own instructional videos or podcasts to help your learners? Are there videos that others have made that you could share with your learners to save your valuable time?

It would be beneficial to make some of your own instructional videos or podcasts to help learners because encourages engagement, visual learning, accessibility, and creativity. Videos are something that are all over the internet, I do not think it would be hard to find educational videos that are suitable for your classroom as other teachers have likely done the same, don’t recreate the wheel.

What are some of the benefits your learners gain by creating their own video or podcast?

By learners creating their own video or podcast, they are exploring further technology knowledge, expanding communication skills or further understanding and applies to creativity and innovation. Creating videos or podcasts it is not only a fun experience but also a beneficial learning opportunity.

Do you anticipate that your learners will have access to laptops to watch and/or create videos or podcasts?

With the advancements of technology and technology within schools, most elementary schools are equipped with laptops or chrome books that are shared throughout the school. But you there is just the process of pre booking and planning when you need the laptops, how long you will need them for.
